A radio DJ died live on air as he presented his usual breakfast show.

The GenX Radio Suffolk presenter Tim Gough was an hour into his broadcast yesterday when the music stopped suddenly without warning. Several moments later the track resumed but Tim was absent from his post.

The broadcaster later confirmed that Tim had died but made no reference to what happened during the show. A spokesperson said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform you, our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away [yesterday] whilst presenting his program.

"Our love to his family, son, sister, brother and mum. Tim was doing what he loved. He was 55 years old."

Tributes began to pour in from fellow broadcasters, including Steph Miskin who said: "Tim had so much love for his friends and family. You couldn't meet a nicer man than Tim. A beautiful soul who we miss so very much."

Virgin Radio presenter Amy Voce said: "Absolutely gutted to hear this news about Tim. He was my first ever boss in radio at Leicester Sound when I was 18 and was SO wonderful. I have the happiest of memories & we always kept in touch & if it wasn’t for him I might not be in radio… #timgough."

A fan said: "Tim was one of the kindest people I knew. A real privilege to have called him a good friend for over twenty years. Thoughts with Isaac and family, gone way to soon."

Another paying tribute on social media added: "My deepest sympathies to Tim’s family and friends. It’s a long time since we worked together but I’ll always hold dear our constant banter in the days of Orwell and Saxon. I am so sad to hear of his sudden death. RIP Tim."v
